I always
require a New York State marriage license when officiating a
wedding. If your ceremony uses words like "married, marriage,
spouse, husband, wife, wedding, wed, etc. " it requires a marriage
license.
You can
obtain your marriage license from any town or city clerk in the
state of New York.
If you
were secretly married by a JP and now want to marry
in front of friends and family, you can obtain a
second marriage license from the town or city clerk. Simply
tell them you are already married and that this will be a
second ceremony.
Information about obtaining
a license in New York State can be found on the purple link below.
Please pay close attention to the time restraints
noted.
Renewal of
vows, handfasting and commitment ceremonies do not
require a marriage license.
